Founders Story | Julie Spence
Activating business growth.
Moxie launched in 2003 on the island of Oahu and offered marketing services to non-profits, startups, and entrepreneurs. After working with dozens of entrepreneurs at all stages of growth, one commonality stood out. The marketing knowledge gap was wide, uncertainty stalled growth, and keeping up with ever-changing marketing technology was holding entrepreneurs back.
Julie Spence founded Moxie to give businesses with annual revenues less than $5M access to innovative strategies, high-performing talent, and consultative coaching to start, grow, and scale. With decades of experience providing marketing expertise to fast-growth, venture capital-backed startups, Julie launched Moxie to share the same cutting-edge growth strategies with early-stage startups, solo-entrepreneurs, and small business owners.

In addition to scaling startups from pre-seed to IPO, Julie received a Master of Science degree from Boston University in Global Marketing Management with a specialization in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Julie provides advisory and mentorship for startup accelerators, is an active member of the Boston Chapter of PRSA (Public Relations Society of America), and provides pro bono marketing support as part of the Moxie Cares program.

In her free time, Julie enjoys reading, skiing, playing tennis and pickleball, and spending time with her family. She also enjoys giving back to the community through volunteering, especially with organizations that support food insecurity and empower women in business.
